Get in shape and have fun

Brothers open E60 Fitness in Rosslyn, offering energizing classes and specialized equipment you won't find at many other studios

When you work out at the brand-new E60 Fitness in Rosslyn, owners Doug and Daniel Frantzen want you to have fun above all else. As athletes who have participated in a variety of team sports — including football, soccer and wrestling — the brothers have furnished their studio with equipment you won't see at many other places. They say their unusual studio provides a more interesting but equally effective workout compared with what you might find at a more typical gym.

At E60 Fitness, which will open June 3 at 1524 Clarendon Blvd., fitness enthusiasts can get buff by navigating an obstacle course or building strength with gymnastics rings, monkey bars, weight sleds, punching bags, battle ropes and climbing ropes. You can also take advantage of the studio's more traditional equipment, including free weights, machine rowers, TRX, indoor spin bikes and treadmills.

A proprietary HIIT (high-intensity interval training) class, Elevate 60, is E60 Fitness's core offering. The class is offered several times a day on a recurring schedule, but the exercises change daily so the workout is different every time. E60 Fitness also offers specialty classes for recovery, toning, athletic skills, weight training and more.

"Our HIIT class is extremely comprehensive," says Doug Frantzen. "It's very challenging but it's also very effective. We focus on form and keep you constantly moving. We offer modifications so everyone can do the workout, regardless of fitness level."

Doug and Daniel own one other E60 Fitness location in Ashburn, Va., and say they are excited to be opening here in Rosslyn. Both Virginia Tech grads, before becoming involved in the fitness industry, Doug worked for Deloitte in Rosslyn and Daniel worked for Accenture. So, opening a studio in Rosslyn feels like a bit of a homecoming for Doug.

Before founding E60 Fitness, the brothers did personal training and offered one-off bootcamp classes. Raised by athletic parents, fitness has always been an important part of their lives. Doug says they are a good team whose strengths complement each other.

"We know what he's better at and what I'm better at," Doug says. "When I worked at Deloitte, I was a national wellness ambassador who promoted corporate wellness for them. So, I tend to handle more of the promotional aspects of running a business. Daniel is the person who puts the most effort into crafting our workouts. They change every day, and he leads that part."

In preparation for their Grand Opening June 3, E60 Fitness will host a soft opening starting May 31. Those interested can come check out the studio and try a class free of charge. They can also join the gym at a special founding member rate.

E60's no-contract membership plans are affordable and flexible. The most basic membership, which provides access to open gym, is just $20/month, and can be used at both E60 Fitness locations. Clients can also purchase membership packages that include access to open gym and a specific number of classes, or they can buy a package of classes. E60 also offers personal and group training.

"Our mission is to get people to be more active, especially those who are intimidated by it," Doug says. "We help them to be active in a unique way."
