The Rosslyn Series of Photography by Frank Hallam Day Surrounds Construction Site

The Rosslyn Series by Frank Hallam Day is a photographic study of Rosslyn shot between October 2013 and April 2014. From rarely seen vantage points, Day interprets the cityscape of Rosslyn as dramatic and mysterious imagery that takes viewers to another world. Transforming the chain link construction fencing surrounding Central Space into a canvas for public art, the installation connects the public to 21 images transferred to vinyl mesh spanning almost 1,500 square feet. The photographs are grouped into four series wrapping the construction site.

Curated by Kim Ward, The Rosslyn Series is the fourth project commissioned by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) through their nationally recognized temporary public art program. As Rosslyn becomes a more vibrant urban community, the temporary public art program transforms architectural features and public space to form a distinct identity for Rosslyn and encourage pedestrian activity.

“Temporary public art really enriches the streetscape, creating points of interest and encouraging public interaction,” says Lucia de Cordré, urban design director for the Rosslyn BID. “It helps to establish the sense of ‘place’ in Rosslyn’s urban core.”

Frank Hallam Day is a fine art photographer in Washington. He has taught photography at the Smithsonian Institution and through other local programs. Day’s work is in numerous museum and private collections in the United States and abroad, including the State Museum of Berlin, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. He was a winner of the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Prize in 2012 and the Bader Prize in 2006, and was a finalist both for the Sondheim Prize in 2007, the Sony Prize in 2010 and the Voies Off Prize at Arles in 2010.
