Rosslyn, VA - The 2008 Warm Winter Clothing Drive for LIGHT UP ROSSLYN, Light Up A Life Campaign was a success, with donations of more than 2,000 pieces of clothing made to help the less fortunate through the winter season.
Rosslyn BID Executive Director Cecilia Cassidy says, "The Rosslyn community started off the holiday season in the spirit of giving, making sure others in need would have warm clothing during the winter. It shows that our busy urban center has a warm heart."
Rosslyn BID Ambassadors placed collection boxes in 15 Rosslyn businesses and residences during the drive, which lasted from November 24 until December 4. Residents and workers donated a large variety of items, which the Ambassador team delivered to A-SPAN (Arlington Street People’s Assistance Network).
A-SPAN, which operates the BID’s outreach program for the homeless, also partners with the Rosslyn BID for the campaign. A-SPAN Executive Director Kathy Sibert says the program is critical to helping many get through the winter. “The huge clothing donation came just as the region experienced extremely frigid temperatures and a challenged economy. A-SPAN has seen an increase in need of 50% over the same time last year. We are very grateful for the strong support of the Rosslyn BID community.”
The LIGHT UP ROSSLYN, Light Up a Life Campaign completed its fourth year in 2008. It also included a fundraising gala at Rosslyn’s Top of the Town on December 11 which resulted in net proceeds of $46,000 to benefit A-SPAN’s work.
