Rosslyn (Arlington, VA) – The Rosslyn Business Improvement District presents Arlington Projections, an eight-day outdoor projection, as part of FotoWeek DC. Arlington Cultural Affairs has curated the photographs and video that will be projected on the wall behind The JBG Companies’ “CentralPlace to CentralSpace” plaza. Performance Video Systems will project the images on an eight-story building visible from the 1200 block of Wilson Boulevard from Saturday, November 6 through Saturday, November 13, 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

The selection of images includes the work of local, regional and internationally-known artists. Arlington County Cultural Affairs’ Susan Soroko curated the work to create a 30-minute projection. The Rosslyn images were created by Jim Coates. The Columbia Pike Documentary Project images highlight the international flavor of the nearby Columbia Pike community, which were created by Lloyd Wolf, Paula Endo, Xang Mimi Ho, Duy Tran, Todd Endo, and Aleksandra Lagkueva. Additional video pieces are presented by Brian Stansfield, Charles Bergquist and Sans façon, whose work can be seen in longer form at Artisphere, Arlington’s new arts space for everyone. Artisphere is located at 1101 Wilson Blvd, just across from the projections.

“The Rosslyn BID is proud to join FotoWeek DC to help bring the art of photography to Virginia. As the home to Dark Star Park, Arlington’s first public art piece, and now the home to Artisphere, Arlington’s Cultural Center, Rosslyn continues to pioneer exciting art and culture for the metro region,” says Rosslyn BID Executive Director Cecilia Cassidy.

Artisphere will also celebrate FotoWeek DC on November 9, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., when skateboarder and photographer Lia Halloran gives a lecture on her new series, Dark Skate, in the Dome Theater. Dark Skate photographic series is currently on display in the Artisphere’s Terrace Gallery. Her work takes the viewer outside the studio, exploring corners of urban environments, the undersides of highway overpasses, and overlooks of magnificent cityscapes.

In honor of the September launch of the DC Circulator’s Rosslyn-Georgetown-Dupont line, the Rosslyn BID and Circulator have partnered to offer two free coupons to ride the Circulator to each visitor at the Rosslyn FotoWeek DC outdoor projection site, while supplies last. A Rosslyn BID Ambassador will hand out the vouchers at the projection site. The ride usually costs $1.

The Rosslyn-based Art Institute of Washington (Ai) is also participating in FotoWeek DC offering Yum 2 (Even Yummier)!! The event reprises last year’s popular show exhibiting professional DC photographers and their food photography for local restaurants and publications, as well as juried student work.

The photography show will be held at Gallery 1820 at 1820 N. Ft. Myer Drive. The exhibit can be seen during gallery hours during FotoWeek DC, Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. It is closed Sunday.

All Rosslyn FotoWeek DC events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the Lia Halloran lecture, which is a “pay-what-you-can” event. For more information about FotoWeek DC events in Rosslyn visit www.RosslynVa.org or follow Rosslyn BID and Rosslyn Renaissance on Twitter @RosslynVA.
