Rosslyn, VA - The Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) activates the spring and summer with “Gateway to Fitness,” outdoor hula hooping exercise classes every Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., May 29 to September 4. The free classes will take place at Gateway Park, located at 1300 Lee Highway at the foot of Key Bridge. Participants are encouraged to bring a hula hoop, but a limited number of hoops will be provided.
Instructor Jocelyn Gordon will lead the hula hoop yoga-infused exercise classes. Jocelyn has traveled the world sharing her captivating Hoop Dancing technique at exotic resorts in Bali, Indonesia and will lead classes in England, Germany, Peru and Mexico this year. Last winter she filmed an instructional Hoop Dance video produced by holistic lifestyle company, Gaiam, and featuring actress Marisa Tomei. Jocelyn is the lead instructor on DVD three of this three-part set, in which she offers a yoga, pilates and hoop dance fusion routine to strengthen and stretch the body.
Hoop Dancers can burn 100 calories every ten minutes. In addition to weight loss, Hoop Dancing can strengthen your core, relax your mind and just be fun! Hoop Dancing is the renovated return of Hula Hooping. Not just for kids anymore, this practice incorporates dance, yoga and tai-chi movements. Each session gets the heart pumping, and enthusiasm soaring! Participants will learn how to isolate different motion segments, and move the hoop with the least possible effort. This conscious engagement strengthens small and large muscle groups, and develops coordination, flexibility and grace.
In the event of rain, class will be cancelled.
"Gateway to Fitness" is just one of more than 100 free events in Rosslyn. For more information about Rosslyn BID programs, visit www.RosslynVA.org
