"Greener" Rosslyn Farmers Market and Lunchtime Concerts Return May 14

Release Date: Thursday, May 7th 2009

Rosslyn, VA - The Rosslyn Business Improvement District’s (BID) Farmers Market returns on Thursdays from May 14 until October 22, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at Wilson Boulevard and North Oak Street. The market will give residents, visitors, and office workers the chance to buy fresh and local from regional vendors who have become Rosslyn favorites. Bread, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, herbs, exotic teas and Italian marinades and sauces will be available during the market.

One lucky market shopper who stops by the Rosslyn BID booth and enters the Market Contest will be chosen each week to win a $10 gift certificate. The tent will be stocked with information about more than 100 free Rosslyn events happening all summer long.

This year the market goes green by offering 100% biodegradable bags which break down completely when in contact with other decomposing materials, whether in compost bins, landfills, or just buried in the ground. These bags can be recycled along with regular plastic bags. Unlike popular starch based compostable bags, these bags will not start degrading in the presence of oxygen, heat, or sunlight, so they can also be reused until no longer serviceable.

Adjacent to the market, shoppers can enjoy a variety of live music during Rosslyn Lunchtime Concerts held from 11:45 am – 1:30 pm through September 24. The lineup includes R& B, Pop, Folk, Jazz musicians and more.
