Rosslyn is pilot site for Arlington County’s Signage System to Enhance Pedestrian Experience
July 14, 2011 - Rosslyn, Va. –How can pedestrians better navigate Rosslyn and find local parks, public art, and historic landmarks? The Rosslyn BID, in partnership with Arlington County, has been working for three years to create a Wayfinding System to make this growing community more pedestrian-friendly.
Rosslyn serves as the pilot site for Arlington County’s Wayfinding System, which eventually will be replicated in urban villages throughout the county. The Wayfinding System includes 35 pedestrian, directional and parking signs. New “You Are Here” signs already have been installed in the following locations:
A new directional sign is also in front of the Waterview building on North Lynn Street.
In the coming weeks, pedestrians will see other maps and directional signs throughout Rosslyn - all part of the BID’s continuous efforts to enhance the pedestrian experience. Some of the other wayfinding locations include:
“This is an exciting project that builds upon the BID’s mission of making Rosslyn more pedestrian-friendly,” said Rosslyn BID Executive Director Cecilia Cassidy. “It has been a collaborative effort between the BID and Arlington County. We are very pleased that Rosslyn is the prototype for a county- wide wayfinding system.”
Arlington County Board Chairman Christopher Zimmerman said, "The new Wayfinding System in Rosslyn further enhances the pedestrian environment and makes Rosslyn an easier place to navigate as a visitor or a resident. We appreciate the Rosslyn BID working closely with the County in establishing this initial Wayfinding System and look forward to applying the design and lessons learned to similar signs elsewhere in Arlington."
