Rosslyn BID Previews the 2009 "I Love the 80s" Outdoor Movie Series

Release Date: Thursday, February 12th 2009

Rosslyn, VA - The Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) will show the Oscar winning movie Moonstruck at the Rosslyn Dome theatre on Friday, February 13 at 6:00 pm.

The first 220 people who come to a 5:00 pm reception and tour the building at 1101 Wilson Blvd will be given tickets to the free screening. The building was the original home of the Newseum and Arlington County is now considering transforming it into a Cultural Center later this year.

Moonstruck, a 1987 romantic comedy starring Cher and Nicolas Cage, won three Oscars including best screen play, best actress (Cher), and best supporting actress (Olympia Dukakis).  Moonstruck is the Rosslyn BID's Valentine gift to 80s fans, and also previews the 2009 Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival, “I the 80's".

The 2009 Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival rewinds to relive the 80s this spring and summer with 19 movies that celebrate the decade.  The “I the 80s”.  The Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival celebrates a variety of 80s cinema including adventure,  romance, comedy, sci-fi and even fantasy. Highlights include The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, Dirty Dancing, E.T., Ghostbusters, The Goonies, and many more.

The festival returns to beautiful Gateway Park at Lee Highway near Key Bridge with an even larger screen every Friday night at dusk beginning May 1 and ending September 4.  People are encouraged to bring blankets and low chairs to picnic in the park before the show. Show up early for the pre-show 80s-themed games and prizes. The movies play rain or shine, but in extreme weather will be shown at an indoor location for the comfort of our moviegoers.

The “I the 80s” Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival builds on the success of the Rosslyn James Bond Film Festival which attracted more than 5,000 attendees during its 16-week run last year," says Cecilia Cassidy, Executive Director of the Rosslyn BID.
