Rosslyn Celebrates Earth Day with New Recycle Bins, New Plantings

Release Date: Wednesday, April 22nd 2009

Rosslyn, VA - The Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID) is going “green” this Earth Day by purchasing and installing 10 blue recycle bins throughout the BID.

“The Rosslyn BID wants to give workers and residents the opportunity to recycle on Rosslyn streets, just as many do in their offices and homes, making Rosslyn greener, “says Rosslyn BID Executive Director Cecilia Cassidy.

The new recycle bins are just one part of the Rosslyn BID’s commitment to creating a greener Rosslyn. The Rosslyn BID Beautification Program is taking more planting areas and transforming them into budding urban spaces. At Gateway Park West, nestled between east and westbound Lee Highway, a $15,000 landscape enhancement program has been completed, which includes new rose beds and entry planting that will make the park even more inviting. The planting is coordinated with the tulip-blooming landscaped islands that the Rosslyn BID plants and maintains.

This spring the BID installed fifteen new street trees alongRosslyn’s core streets, including five on Wilson Boulevard. The new oaks, sycamores, and maples replace trees that were missing, severely damaged or unhealthy.  The BID is also completing an extensive year-long project of installing more than 150 iron tree pit fences throughout the district to protect trees and the surrounding plants.

Rosslyn property owners are doing their part as well. Last winter many replaced rooftop bulbs with environmentally-friendly and energy-saving LED light bulbs for Light Up ROSSLYN during the holiday season.
