The Rosslyn Business Improvement District is presenting Night Gallery – Rosslyn, a five day outdoor projection as part of FotoWeekDC. Arlington Cultural Affairs has curated the photographs and video that will be projected on the wall of The JBG Companies’ Central Place construction site. Performance Video Systems will project the images on an eight-story building visible from the 1200 block of Wilson Boulevard from Friday, November 6 through Tuesday, November 10 from 6 – 11 p.m.
The selection of images includes the work of local, regional and nationally known artists. Arlington County’s Geoffrey Aldridge selected video artists Sean Capone (New York), Kate Gilmore (New York) William Lamson (New York) and Scott Wolniak (Chicago) .The project will also feature a selection of the winners of the Ellipse Arts Center annual photography show from the last three years and photos from two Yorktown High School award-winning students. In addition, a new curatorial project by Welmoed Laanstra will feature newly commissioned work by photographers Mary Noble Ours and Jason Horowitz.
The Rosslyn and Georgetown BIDs have partnered to offer free rides on the Georgetown “Blue Bus” between the two outdoor projections for the weekend of November 6 – 8 between 6 – 11 p.m. The Georgetown outdoor projection will be shown at 3338 M Street, NW. Georgetown and Rosslyn BID Ambassadors will hand out vouchers at the projection sites for travel between Georgetown and Rosslyn, good for travel during projection times only, one round trip per person per day, while supplies last. The ride usually costs $1.
“Rosslyn is home to Arlington’s future cultural center and the county’s first major public art piece. Rosslyn’s commitment to the arts is just one reason we wanted the urban district to be part of FotoWeekDC. The partnership with the Georgetown BID to offer free ‘Blue Bus’ rides between two major outdoor photo projections makes it easy to travel across the Key Bridge and experience what FotoWeekDC has to offer on both sides of the river,” says Rosslyn BID Executive Director Cecilia Cassidy.
Georgetown BID Executive Director James Bracco says, “Offering the ‘Blue Bus’ voucher for FotoweekDC builds on a long standing partnership with the Rosslyn BID to connect commuters across Key Bridge between Georgetown and the Rosslyn Metro. Now we are connecting riders to exciting photography through our transportation partnership.”
