Rosslyn Welcomes Third Annual Planet Arlington World Music Festival

ROSSLYN, VA – Rosslyn will be the site of the third annual Planet Arlington World Music Festival, a multi-cultural event that has drawn huge crowds to the grounds of the Netherlands Carillon (next to the Iwo Jima Memorial), on Saturday, August 30, from 4 – 10 p.m. As many as 15,000 visitors are expected. Free shuttle service will be available from the Rosslyn Metro.
The festival brings the eclectic sounds of the world’s diverse cultures to a live stage, positioned directly across from the Lincoln Memorial, with Washington’s monumental core as its backdrop.
This year’s headliners include Congolese-Angolan salsa icon RICARDOLEMVO and Makina Loca (4:00 – 5:15 pm), China’s YANGYING (5:45 – 6:45 pm), “the Jimi Hendrix of the erhu” (New York Times); Lebanese vocalist TANIASALEH (7:15 – 8:15 pm), profiled in an upcoming PBS documentary; and SOLAS (8:45 – 10:00 pm), the most acclaimed Celtic band to originate in the United States. During the breaks, enjoy off-stage performances in the crowd by regional culturally-specific groups. Additionally, THEWORLDPLAYGROUND provides workshops & activities, and a second stage of family-friendly performances from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
