Anatomical Art Exhibit Coming to 1820 Gallery
Dissection and illustration are as old as da Vinci and just as relevant today to animators and game artists who strive to create realistic characters. The Art Institute of Washington collaborated with the Howard University Medical school on this unique project.
Art students were afforded a unique opportunity to produce anatomical drawings while faculty member Marie Dauenheimer dissected a cadaver. Marie – who is a medical illustrator – took a sabbatical last summer to work on a book. She acquired a cadaver at Howard University Medical Medical School and invited students from her Life Drawing class to join professional illustrators and artists in the lab.
Drawings and sculpture from the the summer-long project will be on display in the gallery from April 12 – May 7. 1820 Gallery is located at 1820 North Fort Myer Drive Arlington, VA 22209.
