Artisphere, Arlington's only Cultural Center, will enliven Rosslyn by offering activities seven days a week and well into the evening.The space will be the new home for the Washington Shakespeare Company and Classika Theater and would continue to provide Synetic Theater a home at the nearby Spectrum Theater.It will include a Wi-Fi café, Busboys and Poets restaurant, a new Virginia artisans' crafts shop, a ticket outlet, and the new location for the Ellipse Art Center gallery. It would also be home to the second largest ballroom in the Washington DC metro area. Arlington County will turn the former Newseum at 1101 Wilson Boulevard into a Cultural Center.  It is expected to open Fall 2010.

Arlington County Board Approves Public’s Choice, Names New Cultural Center

• Public voted for name
• Renovations begin this month
• Opening scheduled for 10-10-10


ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Board today approved the public’s choice of ARTISPHERE as the name of the County’s new cultural center.

“Naming the center, with the public’s help, brings us one step closer to transforming the former Newseum site in Rosslyn,” said County Board Member Jay Fisette. “ARTISPHERE’s vibrant mix of year-round performances, exhibits and events will showcase the arts and spur redevelopment. This center will bring excitement, culture and new life to the neighborhood, to the County and to the region.”

Arlington County Board Approves Cultural Center
Arts showcase to bring more evening, weekend activity to Rosslyn 

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Arlington County Board today approved plans to transform the former Newseum site in Rosslyn into a cultural center that will showcase the arts in Arlington and spur redevelopment by hosting a vibrant mix of year-round performances, exhibits and events.“In little more than a year, we will have an exciting arts venue in the heart of Rosslyn that will be a boon to that neighborhood, to the entire County and to the region,” said Board Chairman Barbara Favola. “The combination of free rent for more than 15 years and the partnership with the Rosslyn Business Improvement District made it possible for the County to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity. This is one of the most exciting accomplishments I have been part of in my 12 years on the Board.”
