The Alcove

All you've ever wanted . . . and more!

UPDATE: The Alcove closed its doors on October 6 to make way for an exciting new food hall that will permanently occupy this space.

The Alcove is a nearly 5,000 square-foot storefront bringing unique experiences to Central Place for a limited, two-month engagement. Anchored by a used book store whose proceeds benefit local nonprofit Turning the Page, The Alcove hosts rotating retailers and a wide range of events. Shop for artisan-made products, food and beverage items, apparel, art and even bridal accessories. Plus, take part in wide-ranging events, such as musical performances, fitness classes, DIY workshops, and readings by well-known authors. The Alcove is a comfortable and welcoming place where you can relax and enjoy yourself.

This is your community space, so come out and be a part of it!

How is The Alcove different from what we've done before?

For Rosslyn, which has moved from being a business community to a 24/7 urban neighborhood, our pop-up events and public spaces have provided more than 20,000 workers and 13,000 residents with a reason to go outside and participate in shopping, dining and fitness activities. They’ve breathed life into our streets as our neighborhood has grown and changed. The Rosslyn BID has hosted dozens of successful pop-ups in the past, including boot camp fitness classes in the park, a holiday market, a fall harvest fest, a spring book festival with record-breaking sales, outdoor beer gardens, ice cream socials and bonfire concerts. In all of these pursuits, our goal has always been the same: to create a welcoming, dynamic environment that supports Rosslyn's residents and a wide range of businesses.

The Alcove is different—and special—for so many reasons:

  • The Alcove is the product of a diverse and committed partnership of several well-respected organizations. The Rosslyn BID plans the programs, but we could not have done this without the support of several generous businesses, including Capitol Drywall, Davis Construction, Gensler, JBG SMITH, Streetsense and Turning the Page, as well as our close partners Arlington County and Arlington County Library. Each has provided financial or in-kind support to help get The Alcove up and running and to keep it humming along throughout its two-month tenure in Rosslyn.
  • The Alcove is Rosslyn's first bricks-and-mortar pop-up store. Because we're not packing it up after a one-time event, The Alcove is a place you can visit anytime you want during the two months it's here. Stay updated on what's going on at The Alcove during its time here. Keep coming back to take part in new experiences every week.
  • Most Rosslyn BID events occur outdoors and are often at the mercy of the weather gods. However, The Alcove is a unique indoor space, so we have room to experiment with new, creative experiences we wouldn't be able to produce in our usual venues. The Alcove's unique footprint and ideal, central location give us the opportunity to take our programming a step further than we have in the past. In this bright and cheerful space that is illuminated in the daytime by natural light, you'll be able to engage in unique shopping experiences. We want you to visit early and come back often. There will always be something new!
