The Rosslyn Metro Station is the busiest in Northern Virginia, with an average of 36,000 entries and exits per day. To ensure the station keeps up with rising demand, Arlington County is moving forward on a three-year, $32.6 million dollar improvement project. The work will create several enhancements:
• Three new high-capacity, high-speed elevators
• An emergency exit stairwell
• An additional entrance
• A new kiosk and fare collection equipment
For additional information, and to see additional project renderings, please visit the Arlington County website for more information.
The next construction phase for the three, high-speed elevators at the Rosslyn Metro Station requires some excavation blasting at the work site on N. Moore Street, slated to begin soon. Blasting is often a standard practice for excavation and due to the small footprint of the worksite, the contractor anticipates minimal noise and vibration. Additional measures will be taken to minimize the impact on pedestrian and automotive traffic during this phase. More information on date and time of blasting to be posted as it is finalized.
NEW: Due to fire safety requirements for controlled blasting, N. Moore Street, including sidewalks, must be closed for each blast during the first few months of blasting. Some of the blasts will also require the existing Station elevator and two of the four escalators to be closed. To avoid disruptions to N. Moore Street and the existing metro elevator,
CONTROLLED BLASTING WILL OCCUR NIGHTLY, BETWEEN 5:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.
