PAST DATES AND TIMES
LOCATION: Rosslyn Spectrum Theatre - 1611 N Kent St
In recent years, singer Amira Medunjanin, an outstanding successor of the Bosnian traditional music Sevdah, has become one of the most important voices of Central Europe. Medunjanin deftly infuses contemporary elements, such as jazz and American blues, into the traditional music of the region.
Medunjanin is largely responsible for the recent popularity of Sevdah, which has reached more and more European homes, gaining rave reviews from world music magazines and resonating with spellbound live audiences. She's performed all over the world, including in Japan, Taiwan, Stockholm, Liverpool, Istanbul and Helsinki. Her music has been featured at boisterous jazz festivals, but she's also given many laid-bare solo performances, as well. Whatever the venue, her vocal charisma unfailingly moves and captivates. Her dignified voice is as smooth as silk yet at the same time as solid as rock, and is able to interpret the strength of fearless emotions. At the Rosslyn Spectrum, Medunjanin will be performing with Ante Gelo (guitar) and Zvonimir Sestak (upright bass).
