Play along with the Netherlands Carillon at sunset! Join the National Park Service for a celestial evening at the Netherlands Carillon with “Cosmic Carillon,” a special event featuring a sun-and-space themed bell concert and interactive activities.

The concert will begin at 5:30 PM, and will conclude with the participatory performance of “To the Sun” at sunset, 6:30 PM. Guests can also enjoy exhibits and activities provided by the NPS and partner organizations, including the Arlington Public Library, Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium, and the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club.

Director-Carillonneur, Edward Nassor, and NPS associate carillonneurs, Michelle Lam, Hunter Chase, Matthew Deigan, and Kevin Lieberman, will present a recital including original works for carillon and arrangements of well-known classical and popular tunes. The grand finale, “To the Sun” is a hands-on carillon piece celebrating the Parker Solar Probe, the first spacecraft to fly through the Sun’s atmosphere–a daring mission to understand the solar wind and space weather that impact Earth.

The unique and rare event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the concert. For the “To the Sun” portion of the concert, listeners are highly encouraged to stand in front of the Netherlands Carillon for a communal and immersive experience.
