Celebrating Rosslyn’s Community Champions: The Rosslyn Business Improvement District 2025 Cheerio Awards Winners

Rosslyn, VA, January 21, 2026 - The 2025 Cheerio Awards, presented by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District (BID), honor the individuals, organizations, and businesses whose efforts have meaningfully enhanced the Rosslyn neighborhood. These contributions — big and small — bring cheer to those who live, work, and visit here.

The Cheerio Awards shine a bright light on the people who create moments of progress and joy we can all share. Together, this year’s winners exemplify community spirit and a commitment to making Rosslyn better for everyone.

Friends of Urban Agriculture

Cheers to Cultivating Community

From planting to harvesting, volunteer stewardship to donations through Plot Against Hunger — and engaging Rosslyn neighbors at Fall Fest — Friends of Urban Agriculture (FOUA) helped the NOW Pop-Up Park bloom into a community classroom and a harvest for good. In just the first 30 days, FOUA volunteers celebrated a first harvest of over 33 pounds of fresh produce, all grown on-site and donated locally to support neighbors in need. Their hands-on leadership in the Grow Zone, ongoing garden management, and commitment to volunteer engagement have turned the NOW into a living demonstration of community-powered urban agriculture — where every seed sown and lesson shared helps nourish Rosslyn’s future.

Safety Rangers (Block by Block)

Cheers to Keeping Rosslyn Moving

With the launch of the Safety Rangers, Rosslyn gained a visible, trusted team dedicated to safety and smooth streets. Over 1,500 patrol hours, 97 safe walks, and hundreds of community interactions later, the Rangers are a reassuring presence  addressing panhandling, supporting neighbors, and responding quickly to concerns.

This year, their role expanded with the BID’s curbside management pilot, partnering with off-duty ACPD officers to improve traffic flow and enforce safer pick-up and drop-off zones. Thanks to these efforts, Rosslyn continues to earn high marks for cleanliness and safety, making the neighborhood more welcoming for all.

Arlington Economic Development

Cheers to Paving a Placemaking Path

With placemaking now a strategic priority for Arlington Economic Development (AED), the partnership with the Rosslyn BID on the NOW Pop-UPark set a new standard for collaboration and innovation. AED worked alongside the BID and County staff to successfully navigate permitting the NOW, transforming an underutilized terrace into a vibrant, multi-use community destination at the heart of Rosslyn.

This demonstration project reflects AED’s commitment to finding more streamlined solutions and processes that make it easier for community-driven spaces to take root across Arlington. By supporting the NOW in Rosslyn, AED is helping to create a playbook for future public spaces  ensuring that placemaking can thrive and bring new energy to the neighborhood.

H-B Woodlawn

Cheers to A Chorus of Community

From the classroom to the community stage, H-B Woodlawn’s partnership with the Rosslyn BID brings music, creativity, and learning to life in Rosslyn. Under the direction of 2026 GRAMMY Music Educator finalist choir director, Bill Podolski, students have performed at signature events like Rosslyn Cheer: Light the Plaza, inspiring audiences and extending the classroom into the heart of the neighborhood. This year, H-B Woodlawn students also painted rain barrels for the NOW pop-up park, supporting sustainable urban gardening practices in the Grow Zone. Their commitment to collaboration, educational opportunities, and community engagement helps Rosslyn hit all the right notes — making every gathering more vibrant and every season more memorable.
