Lunar New Year is celebrated widely across the world on the first new moon of the calendar year. The observance is celebrated by many cultures in a variety of exciting ways.

At 6 p.m. enjoy a Lion Dance performance by Hung Ci Lion Dance Troupe, highlighting a Lunar New Year tradition. Lion dance performances have been an integral part of celebrations for centuries and are known to be a symbol of power and wisdom, bringing good luck to communities.

Hung Ci Lion Dance Troupe seeks to promote traditional Chinese Lion dancing. This relatively new team is led by Sifu Teach Roberts, who has over 24 years of Lion Dance experience. Crediting his practice with Kung Fu and its correlation to Lion Dancing, Roberts has a clear understanding of their traditions, allowing him to impart the culture effectively.

Before the performance, don’t miss our Trike Giveaway: fortune cookies! Make sure you grab your Rosslyn-inspired fortune during the event and enjoy ceremonial tea from the Asian American Chamber of Commerce. Tea is often shared as a symbol of respect and hospitality during Lunar New Year celebrations.

The Asian American Chamber of Commerce is best known for its commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of the greater Washington area by building bridges and serving as a resource for the AAPI business community. Along with tea, the chamber will be providing a traditional dragon for the celebration, as they are an important symbol of wealth and luck.

There will be opportunity for attendee participation during the Lion Dance, and with an interactive dragon brought by the Chamber. Tae-Gu Kimchi will also be on-site selling their delicious handcrafted Napa cabbage kimchi!

After the event, stop by one of Rosslyn's many Asian restaurants for dinner!

Admission to this event is free and registration is not required, but encouraged, to help us provide the best experience possible for those in attendance.
