Rosslyn companies honored by Arlington Economic Development

Higher Logic and Hungry Marketplace named two of Arlington's 'Fast Four' at annual Arlington Premiere reception

Rosslyn, Va. (December 10, 2019) – Two Rosslyn companies were honored at Arlington Economic Development's (AED's) Arlington Premiere reception last week, an event that welcomes new businesses to Arlington and celebrates others that have been successful.

This year, Higher Logic and Hungry Marketplace were recognized as two of Arlington's "Fast Four"—local companies that demonstrate the fastest level of year-over-year growth in four categories.

According to Arlington Economic Development's website, companies participating in the Fast Four competition are evaluated in four revenue categories after applying online and providing income statements that prove growth and revenue. Hungry Marketplace won in the $1.5-5 million category and Higher Logic took top honors in the $25 million+ category. The two other winners were Deft Consulting ($500K-1.5 million) and Capitol Bridge ($5-25 million).

“Our Fast Four winners truly exemplify the kind of economic success we’re working to grow here in Arlington,” says Marian Marquez, interim director of business investment at Arlington Economic Development. “These are companies who’ve taken the resources and workforce available here in Arlington and worked to develop their innovative ideas into thriving businesses. They are role models for our growing startup community and real success stories in Arlington’s business environment.”

Here's a bit more about Rosslyn's two winners:

Higher Logic

Located at 1919 North Lynn St. in Rosslyn, Higher Logic develops cloud-based engagement software that enables organizations and like-minded people worldwide to share knowledge, create content and solve problems. Over the past decade, the company has grown from a small startup to a multi-million dollar business. They have received many other awards, having been named a "Best Place to Work" by Washingtonian in 2013 and one of The Virginia Chamber of Commerce's Fantastic 50 Companies in 2016.

"We are honored to be named one of Arlington’s Fast Four companies," says Kevin Alansky, Higher Logic's chief marketing officer. "As a long-time resident of Arlington myself, I have seen how the area has been a big factor in the growth of companies like Higher Logic. With the close proximity to D.C. we have access to and are able to attract the area’s top talent. The Rosslyn BID offers a lot of support to area companies, which enables us to continue our growth.”

Hungry Marketplace

Founded in Rosslyn in 2016 by brothers Shy and Eman Pahlevani, HUNGRY Marketplace offers businesses access to a network of talented chefs who prepare unique, tasty meals from a variety of culinary traditions that are a delicious departure from traditional catering. The company launched its second market, Philadelphia, in 2018, and has since added Atlanta, Boston and New York City. It plans to open in Los Angeles next year.

"Rosslyn has been an incredible home for us, says Hungry co-founder Shy Pahlevani. "The continued support that we have received from the Rosslyn BID has been phenomenal in building our brand."

"Rosslyn BID's President Mary-Claire Burick has been a master connector putting us in touch with new clients, new chefs, and investors," adds Sarah Casterline, Hungry's director of marketing.

"The fact that two out of the four Fast Four winners call Rosslyn home illustrates the caliber of companies that continue to establish roots here,” says Rosslyn BID President Mary-Claire Burick.“ Hungry Marketplace and Higher Logic have not only reached admirable growth and revenue, but they also represent what true entrepreneurship can achieve when paired with innovations in technology and a talented workforce.”
