Envisioning a Unique Urban Center
Q&A with Chris Gordon, Principal, KGD Architecture
Q: How did your background in architecture and urban planning influence your decision to move to Rosslyn?
A: I think the fact that we are especially attuned to architecture certainly played a role in allowing us to have a vision for Rosslyn’s future. We saw the energy here and thought that all of the change and development was stimulating, and more exciting than downtown DC, which feels sort of staid. Where else in the area can you get this kind of density? To us, density is a great thing.
We also recognized some big trends happening nearly a decade ago, in terms of land planning models and people moving back to urban cores. We realized that we were better served, transportation-wise, by coming to Rosslyn instead of other parts of the metro area.
Q: What are the main advantages of the Rosslyn location?
A: The transportation system here is fantastic. We were actually able to recruit better employees because we moved to Rosslyn. Our clients are in MD, DC and VA and this is a convenient location for them. We host almost all of our meetings here.
Q: Any developments taking place that you’re particularly excited about?
A: Central Place is going to be pretty remarkable. We get excited when we see cranes, especially around our office. It's great seeing all these projects coming online. And really, sky's the limit here, because of the location.
